If successful at interview at the end of the short programme at UHB, candidates
will then move onto a Band 2 twelve week, fully paid Trainee HCA programme
with BCHC.
The aim is that they w ill ultimately move into a full HCA job role within BCHC.
(Subject to satisfactory completion of training)

Eligibility:
• Unemployed
• Age 18 plus
• Living in Birmingham or Solihull
• Not in Further of Higher Education
• Level 1 in Literacy & Numeracy (assessment t o be completed at the
Learning Hub, as part of enrolment process.)

1. Decking the Halls with Love: Step Next transforms its properties into a haven of holiday cheer. Volunteers and staff join hands to decorate the communal areas and living spaces with colorful lights, festive ornaments, and beautiful Christmas trees, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.

2. Spreading Christmas Spirit: To ensure everyone feels the magic of Christmas, Step Next organizes various activities and events. We hold community gatherings, where residents and staff come together for festive meals, exchange gifts, and engage in fun games and entertainment. These gatherings foster a sense of belonging and create lasting memories.

3. Joyful Giving: Christmas is a season of giving, and Step Next encourages acts of kindness and generosity. We collaborate with local organizations, businesses, and individuals who graciously donate gifts, warm clothing, and food hampers for our residents. Seeing the joy on their faces as they receive these gifts is truly heartwarming.

4. Celebrating Diversity: Step Next embraces the diversity of its residents, recognizing and respecting the various traditions and customs they bring. We encourage residents to share their cultural practices during the holiday season, allowing for a rich tapestry of celebrations that educates and unites our community.

Engaging the Community: Step Next believes in the power of community engagement. During Christmas, we organize events that welcome volunteers, supporters, and members of the local community to join in the festivities. This not only spreads holiday cheer but also raises awareness about homelessness and encourages collective efforts to make a difference.

1. A Holistic Approach to Well-being: The session conducted by Step Next and Al-Afiya took a holistic approach to mental health. It encompassed various aspects, including understanding emotions, stress management techniques, self-care practices, and strategies for building resilience. The collaborative effort aimed to empower tenants with valuable tools to nurture their mental well-being.
2. Expert Guidance and Support: The session featured mental health experts from Al-Afiya who provided professional guidance and support to Step Next tenants. Through informative presentations, interactive discussions, and personalized counseling, the experts addressed individual concerns and offered practical strategies to enhance mental well-being.
3. Creating a Safe and Supportive Space: Step Next and Al-Afiya collaborated to create a safe and supportive space for tenants to openly discuss their mental health concerns. The session fostered an environment of trust, empathy, and understanding, allowing tenants to share their experiences, seek guidance, and connect with others facing similar challenges.
4. Promoting Self-Care and Resilience: The session emphasized the importance of self-care and building resilience. Tenants were encouraged to prioritize their mental well-being by incorporating self-care practices into their daily routines. They learned effective coping mechanisms, stress management techniques, and strategies to navigate challenging situations with resilience and strength.
5. Empowering Step Next Community: The collaborative session empowered the Step Next community by raising awareness about mental health and reducing the stigma associated with seeking support. It inspired tenants to prioritize self-care, engage in open conversations about mental health, and support one another in their journeys towards well-being.
